Sawlogs The price of Finnish pine sawlogs
at forest road decreased by €0.57 to 56.97 €/m³ in August compared to previous month (-1.0% compared to previous month, -0.2% compared to 2015). The price of spruce sawlogs decreased by €0.13 to 57.94 €/m³ (-0.2%, +4.2%). The price trend for spruce sawlogs is increasing. The price of pine sawlogs has increased slightly in 2016.
In the chart below we compare the price index trend of sawn pine and pine sawlogs in Finland. Price index of sawn pine has decreased clearly since mid-2015 and has been stable at a relatively low level in 2016 (compared to after the financial crisis). The price index of pine sawlogs has remained relatively stable. Sawn prices include figures for June and sawlogs include August.
Below is the same chart but for spruce. The price index of spruce sawlogs has increased this year. The price trend of sawn spruce decreased in 2015, but has increased again in 2016. The price of sawn spruce includes figure for June and sawlogs include August.
Sales of pine sawlogs in Finland amounted to 483,000 m³ in August (+24% compared to 2015), the figure for spruce sawlogs was 654,000 m³ (+32%) and birch sawlogs 48,000 m³ (+30%). A total of 1.19 million m³ of sawlogs were sold in Finland in August (+28%). Sales during January - August amounted to 10.79 million m³ (+24%). Sales of spruce account for the largest increase during the period (+36%).

Pulpwood The price of Finnish pine pulpwood
at forest road decreased by €0.84 to 27.93 €/m³ in August compared to previous month (-2.9% compared to previous month, -0.5% compared to 2015). The price of spruce pulpwood decreased by €0.83 to 29.50 €/m³ (-2.7%, -1.0%). The price of birch pulpwood decreased by €0.18 to 28.11 €/m³ (-0.6%, -3.9%). The price of pine pulpwood has increased marginally so far this year. The price of spruce pulpwood has been relatively stable and the price of birch pulpwood has decreased slightly this year and reached in August the lowest level since January 2011.
Sales of pine pulpwood in Finland amounted to 807,000 m³ in August (+43% compared to 2015), the figure for spruce pulpwood was 351,000 m³ (+47%) and birch pulpwood 341,000 m³ (+40%). A total of 1.50 million m³ of pulpwood were sold in Finland in August (+43%). All sales during January - August amounted to 12.82 million m³ (+24%). Sales of spruce account for the largest increase during the period (+35%).
